Bobbiefudge Entertainment Presents:
It’s the height of the JAZZ AGE and the RENAISSANCE in 1923 Harlem, NY is in full swing! GEORGE “HERSHEY” STRAHAM owns SUGARFLAPS, the hottest cabaret on BLACK BROADWAY. Famous singers, musicians, dancers and writers frequent this hot spot to mingle with young hopefuls and fans. While HERSHEY’S business life couldn’t be better, his personal life couldn’t be worse. Married to spiteful wealthy black socialite, GLADYS BAINES STRAHAM and having an affair with lead dancer/choreographer, JIMMY, Hershey is torn between his head and his heart. CLAYTON, Hershey’s right-hand man and comical busybody seamstress MONA, keep the club in tip-top shape, which make things interesting daily.
The dancers: CARMEN, the sweet and sensitive college girl working her way through teacher’s college, DOCHIA, the beautiful, yet spoiled and vain vixen with dreams of grandeur and newcomer LIZZY, the wannabe actress hiding secrets, leave their problems offstage and shimmy their way to nightly standing ovations as the BRONZE BABIES.
Problems soon arise when JIMMY gives HERSHEY an ultimatum, CARMEN questions her feelings for CLAYTON as her wedding to GLADYS’ nephew, the handsome and snobbish BALLARD approaches. LIZZY’S secrets are uncovered-causing tragedy in the process and DOCHIA’s dreams of marrying COUNCILMAN LEON BRADLEY are abruptly halted, causing an eruption that affects every life within the walls of SUGARFLAPS©.
Will SUGARFLAPS© ever be the same? Can it ever return to its pinnacle of popularity after tragedy and consequences rock its walls to near destruction?!
SUGARFLAPS©, a tale of love, secrets, stardom and betrayal, is a sassy breath of fresh air, a departure from every other stage production storyline and a history lesson rolled into one highly entertaining quantum leap back to one of the most exciting eras in the history of this country!
