Featuring the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ahrensburg (Germany) and Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra

The Ahrensburg Youth Symphony Orchestra travels to a foreign country each year, and the Flint School of Performing Arts is thrilled to host them from September 30 – October 8. In this performance, the Arhensburg Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform Elgar’s Cello Concerto and Dvořák Symphony No. 8. Then they’ll join forces with the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra for the US and German national anthems and Strauss’ rousing Radetzky March.

About the Performers:
The Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ahrensburg (Germany), under the direction of Michael Klaue, has been in existence since 1968 and has gained experience on many international stages. In over 50 years, the young musicians have performed not only works from Beethoven to Wagner, but also film and musical music as well as premieres of international contemporary composers. Furthermore, many of the orchestra’s instrumentalists have also gained unique stage experience through solo concerts.

The Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra (FYSO) was first founded by high school students in 1946. Its members, ages 13-20, travel from 12 counties to rehearse weekly from mid-September through rough April and perform several concerts each season at area high schools and The Whiting. Presenting a variety of repertoire, from classical to pop, the orchestra strives to reach the highest possible performance level. Under the direction of Davin Pierson Torre (FIM Vice President for Performing Arts Instruction, Director of the Flint School of Performing Arts, and former Principal Viola with the Flint Symphony Orchestra), the FYSO has enjoyed wonderful exchange relationships with ensembles around the world. In July, they hosted the Limonest, France, Youth Orchestra and are thrilled to host the Arhensburg Youth Orchestra this month. In June 2024, FYSO will make a concert tour of France and Germany.
