Program
Ethel Smyth Overture to The Wreckers
Gerald Finzi Five Bagatelles, Op. 23a (arr. for clarinet and string orchestra)
Carl Maria von Weber Concertino for Clarinet and Orchestra, Op. 26
Felix Mendelssohn Symphony No. 3 in A Minor, Op. 56 (“Scottish”)

Mendelssohn takes us on a tour of dramatic highland landscapes, while Ethyl Smyth explores the emotional currents of the stormy Cornish coastline. Together, they evoke the immense power of nature and the inner struggles of the people who are shaped by it.

Gerald Finzi, too, paints sonorous pictures of the English countryside in his Five Bagatelles, with the help of guest artist Ricardo Morales. Morales will prove why he’s one of today’s most sought-after clarinetists with his dexterous performance of Weber’s Concertino for Clarinet.
