KidsTix FAQs
What is KidsTix?
KidsTix creates new access to world-class performing arts experiences for families by reducing the financial barriers that often prohibit their participation. We believe the arts are transformative and absolutely everyone should have the opportunity to experience their impact.
Will FIM be sending me free tickets?
No. This is not a “free ticket” program, but it does help offset the cost of attending performances at FIM venues. Registered households will receive a minimum of $200 in an account at the FIM Ticket Center to be used toward the cost of attending performances. Unlike traditional “free” ticket programs, KidsTix allows you a full patron experience: choose your performance, choose your seats, and choose how much of your fund balance to apply.
How does it work?
Simply register for the program by filling out the application online. Once we have received your application, you will receive an email once the application has been approved and processed. Then, browse our list of qualifying programming and call the Ticket Center to purchase tickets using your funds on account.
Who qualifies for KidsTix?
KidsTix is available to any household in Genesee County who has at least one child aged 19 or younger living in the home. While the program is intended for families in special need of financial assistance, there is no proof of income required during the application process. Funds will be awarded to the first 500 families who apply.
Am I guaranteed to be selected if I apply?
The first 500 applicants will be awarded KidsTix, as long as they meet the outlined qualifications. After that, households will be put on a waiting list and given priority to enroll in the following season.
What kind of shows can I see and where?
KidsTix funds may be applied to any ticketed performance that is presented or produced by FIM at Flint Repertory Theatre, Whiting Auditorium, Capitol Theatre, and MacArthur Recital Hall. Here is a complete list of qualifying performances.
Excluded performances include rentals, fundraisers, co-promotions, and events hosted by community partners in our venues. A box office representative can help answer any questions you have about qualifying performances.
Does KidsTix guarantee I’ll get tickets to the show of my choice?
No. You must call the FIM Ticket Center to purchase tickets with your KidsTix funds in order to guarantee seating. Seats may be selected from those available at the time of purchase.
Do I have to bring my whole family to the show?
No. However, because the program is intended to support the exposure of young people to the arts, we do ask that at least one child in the household is present at performances purchased with KidsTix funds. We also ask that all children 12 years and under are accompanied by an adult at all FIM performances.
How do I access my account to spend the funds?
You can use KidsTix funds for your purchase by calling the FIM Ticket Center during business hours at 810-237-7333, or by visiting the box office at Whiting Auditorium or Capitol Theatre. The box office is open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm. During the summer, from July 1 through Labor Day, the hours are Monday through Friday from 10 am to 3 pm.
How do I use my KidsTix account to purchase tickets online?
At this time, KidsTix cannot be applied when purchasing tickets online. Please call the FIM Ticket Center to speak with a representative or stop by a Ticket Center location.
How much of my KidsTix fund will go toward Ticket Center fees?
None! We will not assess fees on any order purchased with KidsTix funds.
Do I have to spend my KidsTix funds all at once?
No. KidsTix awards you a minimum of $200 on an account to use completely at your discretion. You may apply it to as many qualifying purchases as you’d like until it is expended.
What if my order is greater than my remaining KidsTix balance?
You may use the $200 KidsTix funds completely at your discretion. If the purchase price exceeds the remaining balance on your KidsTix account, you may choose to pay the rest of the cost by cash or credit card, or work with a patron services representative to select another pricing zone or alternative performance. NO FEES will be assessed on the total purchase, even if you use personal funds to supplement the KidsTix credit.
What if I don’t spend the funds on my KidsTix account by the end of the season?
The funds on your account must be used by June 30 and will be redistributed into the general KidsTix fund on July 1 of each year. No part of your balance will roll over into the following season, so it is imperative that you spend the funds in the season during which they are awarded.
Am I eligible to register again next year?
Yes, absolutely. KidsTix funds are available between July 1 and June 30 of each year, and you may apply annually during that period to participate.
