Dr. Hyekyung Sia Lee, piano
A Journey Through Fantasy & Imagination

FSPA Piano Instructor Dr. Hyekyung Sia Lee explores the piano’s ability to evoke vivid imagery and transport listeners into worlds of fantasy and imagination. Each piece on the program represents a journey through different soundscapes- some inspired by distant places, others by myth, legend, or cinematic storytelling.

Debussy’s Estampes’ impressionistic harmonies conjure exotic landscapes and distant memories. Bolcom’s The Garden of Eden shifts the journey into a modern retelling of the biblical paradise, blending American ragtime style with underlying narratives of innocence, temptation, and loss. Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz No. 1 plunges the listener into the dramatic world of Faust, depicting the seductive and chaotic dance of the devil. Finally, Hirtz’s Wizard of Oz Fantasy bring the journey to a whimsical yet virtuosic conclusion, weaving familiar melodies from the beloved film into a dazzling pianistic fantasy.

This concert will take the audience on a journey where music becomes more than sound-it becomes a gateway to distant places. Mythical tales and limitless imagination.
