Floral Arrangements
Flowers, including imagery of indigenous Michigan plant life, serve as the unifying thematic and visual element throughout this enchanting program. Featuring “Trocke Blumen” by Franz Shubert for flute and piano; the sonata “Flora” by Japanese composer, Yuko Ubeyashi with beautiful French and Parisian thematic elements, reminiscent of Debussy; and “Green Places” by living American flutist and composer, Gary Schocker. This final work taps into many different styles from Neo-Classical motives over an Alberti bass, to “intoxicating jazz,” to a “rough ride through a craggy forest.”
