Music Therapist
About the Opportunity
FIM is seeking a full-time Music Therapist to join our team, with a focus on working with individuals in jails, juvenile detention centers, and foster care. The ideal candidate will have experience in using music therapy to address the emotional, psychological, and social needs of these populations. This position requires a professional who is adaptable, empathetic, and committed to making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable individuals.
Specific Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized music therapy treatment plans for clients in jails, juvenile detention centers, and foster care.
- Complete clinical documentation for each client including attendance, assessment, treatment plans and progress notes in a timely fashion.
- Utilize various music therapy techniques to address emotional, cognitive, and social challenges.
- Collaborate with the Music Therapy Department Chair, other healthcare professionals, social workers, and facility staff to ensure comprehensive care.
- Provide support and advocacy for clients within the therapeutic setting.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
- Contribute to program development and community outreach initiatives.
- Be punctual and maintain regular attendance for scheduled sessions and administrative work.
- Comply with the American Music Therapy Association Code of Ethics and maintain Board Certification.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy or Music Therapy equivalency.
- Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) credential.
- Experience working with individuals in correctional facilities, juvenile detention centers, and/or foster care systems is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and therapeutic interventions for at-risk populations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
