About the Opportunity
FIM is seeking a passionate Actor/Storyteller to join the FIM Troubadours ensemble. Reporting to the Manager of Community Programming, the ideal candidate is a charismatic performer with strong storytelling abilities, stage presence, and a love for working with children in educational settings. You will collaborate with musicians, dancers, and teaching artists to create immersive and playful performances that inspire and educate elementary students.
About the FIM Troubadours
The Flint Institute of Music’s Troubadours is a dynamic, interactive performance troupe dedicated to bringing music, storytelling, dance, and theatre into elementary schools across Genesee County and surrounding areas. For over 20 years, the ensemble has created engaging arts experiences for young audiences, nurturing creativity, character education, and arts appreciation.

Specific Responsibilities and Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
- Perform as the lead storyteller/narrator/actor in interactive, educational performances for elementary school audiences.
- Collaborate with ensemble members (string quartet, dancer, playwrights, Director) to shape scripts and performance flow.
- Engage directly with students during performances, fostering participation and excitement.
- Assist in adapting scripts annually to ensure fresh, creative programming.
- Represent FIM’s mission of inclusive arts education in a professional, energetic manner during school visits.
- Participate in rehearsals, team meetings, and professional development workshops.
- Assist with set-up and tear-down of simple stage materials and props at performance sites.
- Occasionally contribute to educational materials or classroom activities connected to the program.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong background in acting, storytelling, or theatrical performance.
- Comfortable performing for young audiences, especially elementary school-aged children.
- Excellent verbal communication and improvisational skills.
- Collaborative mindset with openness to co-creating content with musicians and dancers.
- Ability to adapt to diverse school environments and maintain a high level of professionalism.
- Reliable transportation for travel to schools across Genesee County and surrounding areas.
- Availability during weekday mornings/afternoons during the school year.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in educational theatre or arts-in-education outreach programs.
- Background in music or dance is a plus but not required.
- Familiarity with classroom engagement strategies and arts integration.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Per Service Pay platform for both performance and rehearsal time.
- Part-Time, Seasonal Position
- Performance schedule varies, with advance notice, typically within school hours
- Non-Exempt
