Rededication Ceremonies at McFarlan Veterans Memorial Park

4:00 PM
Free to Attend

Please join us as we The Friends of McFarlan Veterans Park with support from FIM and Back To The Bricks® host rededication ceremonies at McFarlan Veterans Park on Thursday, July 13, 2023, starting at 4:00pm. This will be a rain or shine event.

This is a community-wide celebration, to include all residents, businesses, Veterans, family members of veterans past and present, City-local and state representatives along with other distinguished guests are welcome to this historic rededication of Flint’s very first public park.

In 1875, the city purchased this small tract of land which was made into its first park from a farmer, lumber baron, and Mayor Alexander McFarlan. McFarlan gifted the park with an ornamental fountain and the park was named in his honor. McFarlan was instrumental in developing Flint’s downtown. In 1951, the park received the designation of Genesee County’s official war memorial. McFarlan Veterans Memorial Park honors the thousands of Genesee County military veterans who gave up their lives in battles dating back to the Civil War. McFarlan Park today sits on the point where Saginaw and Martin Luther King Avenue merge (directly in front of The Durant Luxury Apartments).

After several years of fundraising, financial support from area businesses and community organizations, and a dedicated volunteer base, an extensive renovation and upgrade of the park began in 2022 and is now nearly complete.

We wish to celebrate this occasion in the form of a patriotic salute involving music, invocation, and the spoken word.

We hope you can join us.
