The Flint Institute of Music names Rodney Lontine as new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective August 1, 2016. Lontine succeeds former FIM President and CEO Paul Torre, who was named CEO Emeritus upon his retirement in May after 21 years of service.
"What struck me upon my first visit to the Flint Institute of Music and the Flint Cultural Center Campus was the depth and breadth of the arts and the world-class facilities and programs," stated Lontine. "I am proud to be part of this organization and the Flint community as we build on our successes and develop our programs to be an integral part of a vitalized and growing city."
A Colorado native, Lontine brings an exceptional record of executive leadership, arts programming, fundraising, performance and marketing success to his new role. Prior to joining the FIM, Lontine served as Executive Director and Chief Operating Office for the Museum of Outdoor Arts in Englewood, Colorado. The Museum of Outdoor Arts is a multi-million dollar arts, education and entertainment institution that includes Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre, an 18,000 capacity facility that has played host to a veritable "who's who" of performers. Before working with the MOA, Lontine co-founded one of the largest advertising agencies in Colorado, Garrison Lontine Advertising. The agency grew from a start-up to $18 million in billing in just five years and included numerous high profile clients including the Coca-Cola Company, Nestle, Little Caesars Enterprises and the G. Heileman Brewing Company.
Lontine graduated from Western State Colorado University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and a minor in Fine Arts.
"The entire FIM Board of Trustees undertook a multi-faceted, seven-month national search that involved many levels of both internal and external stakeholders," stated Vince Lorraine, Board Chairman. "As a result of that process, I know I speak for everyone when I express my confidence in our selection of an exceptionally qualified person who will continue to build upon FIM's role in our community."
Lontine takes leadership as the FIM and Flint School of Performing Arts celebrate one hundred years of history as part of the Flint community. Also celebrating milestones are Flint Youth Theatre celebrating their 60th year, and Flint Youth Ballet celebrating their 35th year, and the Flint Symphony Orchestra, entering their 100th concert season.
