250 years of America = A whole lot of reasons to celebrate
And we’re doing it in a way that’s “perfectly FSPA!”
For years, FSPA has been one of the largest community music schools in Michigan, and that’s largely based on a belief that anyone can learn to perform if only given access to the right tools. Here’s your opportunity to help us prove it.
We’re collecting 250 unique renditions of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary. We don’t care how you perform it — we just want to see it! Record a 30-second video of yourself (or your group) performing this universally recognized song. (Even Mozart wrote some variations on the theme, for the record. Will you be the next Wolfgang?)
But I’m not a musician, you may be saying to yourself.
First of all, we disagree. Second, the stars are the limit with this assignment. No need for perfect pitch or music theory knowledge. We don’t even care if you know the words!
Here are a few performance ideas:
Act it out
Dribble the rhythm with a basketball
Paint a picture of it
Whistle it
Dance to it
Animate it
Hum it
Strum it on guitar
Sing it with your choir
Anything you can imagine, you can do.
We’ll compile all the submissions into a video to play at our 4th of July Celebration over the summer. Better yet, we’ll pay homage to the earliest roots of FIM as a community choral organization and join in song that day to perform the tune one final time — together!.
We believe everyone is born creative. And your participation can only make our world twinkle a little brighter.
