Delaina joined the FIM Flint School of Performing Arts percussion faculty in 1988. She served as Percussion Department Chair, Percussion Ensemble Coach, and Percussion Class and Lesson Instructor. Delaina was an avid performer, often featured on the FSPA Faculty Concert Series. As an educator/mentor, she went far above and beyond expectations, generously giving of her time and talent. She was a true master teacher. Delaina impacted hundreds of young percussionists’ lives. She not only taught them to play music, but she also taught them important life skills including responsibility, teamwork, how to keep a schedule, resilience, and conflict resolution.

Most of all, she taught them how to have fun and connect with others through music. Her legacy lives on through her students, many of whom make careers as professional performers and teachers.
