Music is often called the universal language, and for members of the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra (FYSO), that idea is about to come vividly to life.

From March 28 to April 5, FYSO will travel to France as part of a long-standing exchange tradition. This time, they’ll be reuniting with their sister organization, the Curva Via Youth Orchestra in Paris, who visited Flint around the same time last year.

During their stay, students will live with host families for a truly immersive cultural experience. The week will include joint rehearsals and performances with Curva Via, opportunities to explore Paris and a full slate of artistic and educational activities. The group will even make a brief trip to London for additional sightseeing and inspiration.

Experiences like this broaden young artists’ perspectives, strengthen confidence and forge friendships that last a lifetime. We wish our talented musicians safe travels and cannot wait to hear the stories (and music!) they bring home.

Help us wish them Bon Voyage in March!

The group will perform the music they’ve prepared for their trip abroad at Whiting Auditorium on March 22. The 3pm concert is their final dress rehearsal before making international connections, and it’s your chance to send them off with confidence!

Support enriching international experiences for our young artists for many years to come.

Opportunities of this magnitude are profoundly meaningful, but they also come with significant expenses that can be out of reach for some families. A contribution to the FYSO Fund helps ensure that every deserving student can participate in life-changing educational travel, regardless of financial circumstance.
