Rachael VanHorn holds a Bachelors degree in K-12 Instrumental and Vocal Music Education from Wayne State College of Nebraska, where she majored in trombone with a minor in voice and piano. While in college, Rachael was president of her chapter of the Music Educators National Conference and participated in various inter-collegiate honor bands on trombone and percussion. She was also the music coordinator for the Sci-fi/Fantasy club and ran sessions on Filk song writing and singing at their annual conventions.

After graduation, Rachael moved back to Michigan and worked for Grand Blanc Community Schools for 13 years teaching middle school choir and beginning band. She also directed musical theater productions,  accompanied soloists for competitions and played various instruments in pit orchestras.

Rachael is a current member of The Carolyn Mawby Chorale (formerly the U of M- Flint Alumni Choir) where she performs as well as serves on the board as the groups music librarian.

Currently, Rachael teaches various classes for students at the Flint Cultural Center Academy including elementary music, choir, percussion and beginning band. When not teaching, Rachael enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with her husband and two children.
