A native of Taiwan, Po-Chen Chang is a dedicated solo, chamber, and orchestral musician. He regularly performs solo recitals in the US, Europe, and Asia. As a chamber musician, he made his debut in Carnegie Hall with his piano trio and has performed at various festivals all over the world. Throughout his career, he has performed with many orchestras including the Texas Music Festival Orchestra and currently holds tenure positions in the Flint and Battle Creek Symphony Orchestras. He has also performed with the Billings Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Indiana, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, and the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, amongst others.
Po-Chen began playing cello at the age of ten. Currently, Po-Chen studies with Professor Suren Bagratuni at Michigan State University as he works towards a doctorate in cello performance. During his time at MSU, he has served as a graduate teaching assistant, teaching applied cello lessons and coaching high school cello sections in the Lansing area. As an educator, the Grand Rapids Youth Orchestra, Okemos High School, and St. Johns Middle-High School orchestras have invited him to coach their cello sections.
He received both his master’s degree and artist diploma from Ball State University studying with Dr. Peter Opie. During his time as a student, Po-Chen has participated in master classes led by Richard Aaron, Axel Salmona, Alvin Wong, Austin Huntington, Daniel Veis, Ismar Gomes, Nathan Jasinski, Nicolas Finch, Robert Reed, Stephan Braun and Stephen Feldman.
