METAMORPHOSES
By Ovid
Directed by Leslie Hull
Rehearsals: January 8 – February 5, 2027
Performances: Touring from February 8 – February 28, 2027
Flint Rep on the Road returns this season with a three week winter touring adaptation of the epic poem Metamorphoses by Ovid.
In this fast-paced journey through the myths of Ovid, mortals and deities collide in stories of passion, jealousy, humor, and loss—where humans become animals, rivers, stars, and more. Metamorphoses is a theatrical adventure that brings ancient stories to life, revealing a timeless truth: change is the one thing we all share.
CASTING BREAKDOWN:
Seeking a dynamic ensemble of 7 – 9 performers/theatre-makers of all ethnicities, backgrounds, gender identities, body types, and abilities to portray the many characters that make up the world of Metamorphoses. Performers should be comfortable with classical text. Please note any special skills (proficiency with an instrument, movement training, circus training, etc.).
IN PERSON AUDITIONS:
Craft an original, short-form (1-2 min.) personal experience story/monologue/poem utilizing elements from either the original text of Metamorphoses by Ovid, or other inspirational source material available to you, such as similar classic plays, books, music, quotes, etc. Anything that assists you in telling your own real-world/real-life, deeply human tale.
The theme of these personal pieces should reflect some of the lessons/parables of Ovid’s work, such as: REFLECTION/GROWTH, CHANGE/TRANSFORMATION, PASSION/POWER, LOVE/HATE, CHAOS/ORDER, etc.
Please use your best discretion and good Mental Health Practices if/when selecting difficult or complex memories, or topics that may be challenging to navigate for this exercise.

Please fill out our in-person audition form here. At the end of the form, you will be directed to a link to select an appointment block. Each block is two hours long and will include a group warm up. Please make sure you’re available for the entirety of the two-hour block.
