Happy Days
Last fall, Encore Michigan Magazine recognized FIM Flint Repertory Theatre with 16 prestigious Wilde Awards – another record for one of the best repertory theatres in the state. Known as Michigan’s Professional Theatre Awards, the groundbreaking Flint Rep has now amassed an impressive 42 honors!
An especially significant award is the Jim Posante Award for LGBT Community Pride for the Flint Repertory Theatre’s “dynamic reimagining” of The Fantasticks. Rewritten by original book writer and lyricist Tom Jones, in collaboration with Flint Rep Producing Artistic Director Michael Lluberes, the longest-running musical in history was re-imagined with two young gay men in the leading roles. It was met with critical acclaim.
Wrong River was a world premiere production written by playwright Josh Wilder and directed by Flint-native Jeremiah Davison. It was selected from the Flint Rep’s 2020 New Works Festival. Two more world premieres are slated for the 2022-23 season: The Future is Female… and Magnificent Seven, also from New Works Festivals.
“FIM Flint Repertory Theatre, under Michael Lluberes’ leadership, has vaulted into being one of the top regional theatres in the country. Every aspect of the Flint Rep’s productions–from the choice of play, the artists he attracts, the set, light and sound design–is always exceptional. Flint Rep is truly a jewel and a fountain of excellence in a city that deserves to have such an organization producing such superior work,” said David Kiley of EncoreMichigan
FIM is exceptionally proud of the theatre’s visionary staff, artists, writers, directors and all the other professionals who make these productions possible.
