Violinist Joseph Gray is violin coach/mentor and violin instructor at the Flint School of Performing Arts. He also teaches for the Sphinx Overture Program in Flint elementary schools. He has developed a versatile career as an orchestral, chamber, and solo musician.An enthusiastic performer, he has been invited to perform in numerous concert halls along the east coast such as: Lincoln Centers David Geffen Hall, Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, the New World Center, Max M. Fischer Theatre, and many other venues. In past years he has been awarded scholarships to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Interlochen Arts Academy, Miami Wagner Institute Fellowship, and the Teresa Schuster Memorial Award. He is formerly a student of Wei He, who is now Artistic Director of Juilliard-China.Joseph has attended numerous music festivals such as: the New York Philharmonic Biennial Music Festival, Miami Music Festival, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival and more. He has had the honor of studying with many great teachers such as Joel Smirnoff, Ian Swensen, Simon James, Sonia Lee and Katherine Dunham. He has played under the baton of Leonard Slatkin, Edwin Outwater, Leon Fleisher, Jung-ho Pak, and John Axelrod. Joseph is currently playing a 2018 Jonathan Price violin given to him by a generous donor.
