Flint Rep’s Ghost Light Cabaret Illuminates a Unique Performance Experience
A ghost light is a single lightbulb left on when a theatre is unoccupied, usually placed in the middle of a stage. Practically speaking, it’s a safety precaution, so that whoever is first to enter the theatre can navigate to turn the main lights on. But theatre is steeped in tradition and superstition — the ghost light is known to either keep theatre-dwelling ghosts appeased or scare them away, depending on who you ask.
Flint Rep Co-pro Rallies Student Support
In March and April, Flint Repertory Theatre and UM-Flint joined forces to stage a first-of-its-kind co-promoted show, in which professional Flint Rep artists worked side by side with student actors, designers and crew in the UM-Flint Department of Fine and Performing Arts.
Collaboration takes center stage with UM-Flint and the Flint Repertory Theatre to bring "Lucky Stiff"
The University of Michigan-Flint partnered with the Flint Repertory Theatre, bringing Lucky Stiff to the stage, combining student performers with professional actors in a collaboration more than a year in the making. “We knew we wanted to do a co-production in this slot … we probably went through six different musicals before we got to Lucky Stiff,” Shelby Newport, professor of theatre and chair of the department of fine and performing arts, said.
