There’s a familiar saying that originated from a Chinese proverb that states, “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” It can be difficult to imagine what the destination will finally look like but we must start the journey if we ever want to find out. Over 100 years ago— thousands of miles ago, people just like you took a step and then another and another to form what eventually became the Flint Institute of Music. They believed that the arts were an integral aspect of community well-being so they supported it and participated in it, and ensured that FIM would grow and expand to meet ever-changing needs of the community. It’s doubtful that any single donor, patron, partner or supporter could have imagined how each of their steps contributed to what FIM is today. We believe in the power of single steps — we’re incredibly grateful for all those that support the arts. Every single gift matters!
