What should I wear?

We’d love to have you at the Flint Symphony Orchestra however you are dressed! You will see outfits ranging from casual to formal. A good rule of thumb is to dress “business casual,” whatever that means to you – it could be a suit and tie, or jeans and a nice top. In consideration of your fellow patrons, please keep cologne and perfume to a minimum.

When should I arrive?

It’s a great idea to get to the auditorium around 30 minutes before the start of the performance. This allows time to deal with parking, pick up tickets at will-call, and find your seat. If you still need to purchase tickets, you might want to arrive a little earlier.

Inside the Music is a series of pre-concert talks one hour before each classical concert performance. Designed to familiarize you with the evening’s musical repertoire, they are led by knowledgeable experts from throughout the state. They are free to all ticket holders.

How do I find my seat?

Our usher corps will help you find your seat as you enter the auditorium. Need to find the restroom, coat check, or concessions? Just ask any usher in a black vest – they are happy to help!

How long is a symphony concert?

Most symphony concerts are approximately two hours long, including a 20-minute intermission.

When do I clap?

Great question! Some pieces the orchestra plays have more than one section, called a movement. Traditionally, the audience claps at the very end of the piece. How do you know when it’s really the end? The conductor will let both hands down by his sides and acknowledge the audience and orchestra.

What do I need to know about the music before I come?

Nothing! The best preparation is to come with an open mind and heart, ready to enjoy an evening of beautiful music. Fun and informative program notes are provided in a concert program available at the concert and online.

Cell phones

Out of respect for our musicians and fellow patrons, please silence or turn off all electronic devices for the concert. Don’t forget, any recurring alarms you might have set in your phone can override the “silent mode” function. “Airplane mode” is a good option, too!

Photography/Videography

Please, no photography or videography of any kind.

Sit back, relax and enjoy!
