This fall, some of Broadway’s hottest musicals come to FIM Whiting Auditorium. Mean Girls, Menopause The Musical® and Jesus Christ Superstar have all received critical acclaim. This journey of musical masterpieces can be enjoyed from the comfort of your local theatre as part of the
FIM 2023-24 season.

Mean Girls lands at Whiting Auditorium direct from Broadway on November 10 and 11. This hilarious hit musical is based on the 2004 film of the same name. Its award-winning creative team consists of book writer Tina Fey (“30 Rock”), composer Jeff Richmond (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and original director/choreographer Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon).
Mean Girls tells the story of Cady Heron, who has just moved to a Chicago suburb from Kenya, Africa. As she navigates the social dynamics of her new high school, she encounters a clique of social royalty dubbed “The Plastics.” The trio consists of leader Regina George and her minions, Gretchen Wieners and Karen Smith. With the help of friends Damian and Janis, Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign: she will infiltrate The Plastics and take them down from the inside out. Cady quickly learns, however, that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.

Tina Fey has said that some of the material in Mean Girls is based on a period in her own life where she felt like an outsider. In an interview with Parade Magazine, Fey emphasized the show’s positive message that you don’t have to be nasty to be popular, and each of us has to find our voice and use it for good.
New York Magazine hails Mean Girls as “Hilarious! A smart, splashy new musical that delivers with immense energy, a wicked sense of humor and joyful inside-jokery.” Chicago Tribune considers Mean Girls “By far the funniest musical of the year!” Don’t miss a chance to see this popular dramady from a Broadway-caliber cast.

Take a leap back in time to enjoy a new production of the beloved Jesus Christ Superstar, on tour in celebration of the show’s 50th anniversary. With lyrics and music by Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony winners Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber, Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of the extraordinary series of events during the final weeks of Jesus’ life through the eyes of Judas. Its hard-hitting rock ‘n’ roll score reflects on music that defined a generation and appeals to fans of both theatre and concert music alike.

This production is led by the acclaimed director Timothy Sheader (Crazy for You, Into the Woods) and cutting-edge choreographer Drew McOnie (King Kong, Strictly Ballroom). It also won the 2017 Olivier Award for best musical revival. This show has garnered unprecedented reviews and accolades.
“Our production is inspired by the 1971 Brown Album that first introduced the world to Jesus Christ Superstar,” said Elvie Ellis, who plays Judas in the show.

“In honor of that, our show starts as if we are putting the needle down on that original record, and the story doesn’t stop until the last note of the last song, John 19:41, is played. We truly let the iconic music take center stage of our show and lead the storytelling. JCS superfans and folks completely new to the story should come and see it to experience this time-honored show the way it was always meant to be seen!”
Get ready for a girls’ night out with Menopause The Musical®, the longest-running scripted musical in Las Vegas history! The show follows four women at a lingerie sale who find commonality in experiencing symptoms of “the change.” The songs parody classic tunes from the 60s, 70s and 80s as the ladies commiserate about memory loss, hot flashes, night sweats and more.

“This show has a magical effect on audiences like no other I’ve ever seen. It’s fun and funny but it speaks to something powerful in them, which explains its record-breaking run,” said Seth Greenleaf, director of Menopause The Musical®.

Menopause The Musical® has performed to nearly 17 million people in 16 countries worldwide. The LA Times dubbed it “Fresh, funny and simply terrific!” And this show isn’t just for women; men love it too. They can find new ways to relate to their wives, sisters or mothers’ experiences through this show.
The journey through show-stopping Broadway musicals this fall at Whiting Auditorium is not to be missed. There’s something for everyone, from a rock ‘n’ roll retelling of the last days of Jesus’ life to navigating “the change” or the wild social landscape of high school.
