Famed Boz Scaggs and Don McLean Open FIM Season with Their Classic Hits
FIM Capitol Theatre has two exciting concerts opening its 2023-24 season. Boz Scaggs, a Grammy-winning, multi-genre artist making music for more than 50 years, is coming Aug. 5. Don McLean, Grammy award honoree, Songwriters Hall of Fame member and BBC Lifetime Achievement Award recipient graces the stage Aug. 31.
In 1967, Scaggs joined the Steve Miller Band in San Francisco, performing on that group’s albums Children of the Future and Sailor, before launching his solo career with 1968’s seminal Boz Scaggs LP. Scaggs continued to mine a personalized mix of rock, blues and R&B influences, along with a signature style of ballads on influential 70s albums such as Moments, Boz Scaggs & Band, My Time, Slow Dancer and 1976’s Silk Degrees. The latter release became a massive commercial breakthrough, reaching number two and remaining on the album charts for 115 weeks. It spawned three Top 40 hit singles: “It’s Over,” “Lido Shuffle,” and the Grammy-winning “Lowdown.” Subsequently, “We’re All Alone” from the same album became a number-one single for Rita Coolidge.
VIP packages are available for Boz Scaggs’ concert Sept. 5. The Front Row VIP Package includes one front row ticket, while the VIP Tour Package includes a premium reserved ticket in rows 2-12. Both packages include an autographed poster, a Boz Scaggs canvas tote bag, one exclusive Boz Scaggs VIP merchandise item and a commemorative tour laminate.
Don McLean is set to embark on his American Pie 50th Anniversary Tour, visiting nearly 30 cities from Honolulu to Toronto and everything in between. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic songs and albums ever this year, McLean will entertain fans across the continent, proving that “Bye Bye, Miss American Pie” will forever remain a classic staple in American music.
In 1969, McLean recorded his first album, Tapestry. FM radio loved the Tapestry album and very quickly, McLean became a headliner in nightclubs and colleges across the country. The transition to international stardom began in 1971 with the release of “American Pie.” Thirty years later, “American Pie” was voted number five in a poll of the 365 “Songs of the Century” compiled by the Recording Industry Association of America and the National Endowment for the Arts. The song charted within a month, was named one of the Top 5 Songs of the 20th Century by the RIAA and in 2002 was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
McLean says, “The tour has been wonderful! I have been able to connect with fans from all walks of life who have followed my music for years. We are about to kick off more shows in the United States and I look forward to coming to FIM Capitol Theatre on September 31. Hope to see you there!”
