Technical Director

About the Opportunity

The Technical Director is primarily responsible for the construction of all scenic elements and installation of all Flint Rep productions, under the direction of the Flint REP Producing Artistic Director. This is a hands-on position that spends many working hours physically building or installing scenery.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Oversee the build and install of all scenic designs
  • Draft technical and working drawings for productions
  • Articulates scenic engineering needs to design departments
  • Source and purchase materials necessary for scenic executions.
  • Collaborate on build calendars with other department heads
  • Responsible for the build materials budget
  • Attend all production meetings
  • Attend Flint Rep staff meetings
  • Work with designers and directors to successfully implement production vision
  • Additional duties as assigned
  • BA/BS/BFA in Theatre required, MFA in Technical Direction preferred
  • Prior Technical Director experience in professional theatre
  • Carpentry skills, knowledge of welding and rigging, scenic construction techniques,
  • painting, lights, sound
  • Experience in supervising over-hire in shops and performance crews.
  • Budget development and monitoring experience required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours/days reflective of the dynamic schedule of a theatre,
  • which includes a variety of hours including some evenings and weekends.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of Vectorworks /CAD software
  • Must be able to lift at least 50lbs
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills, interpersonal skills, sense of humor

Full Time Benefits available including health, dental and vision insurance, 401k with match, life insurance and paid time off.

Salary Range: $40,000 - $45,000
