Under general direction of the Director of Development and Marketing, the Grant Writer contributes by researching funding sources; drafting, writing, assembling and submitting proposals; tracking submission deadlines, proposal status, and follow-up with potential funders; compiling progress and financial reports to funders; recording receipt of grants; processing timely acceptance and acknowledgment of grants; ensuring regular communication with prospective and existing funders; and maintaining database and filing system. Writes and adapts existing boilerplate proposals to the requirements of each specific grant opportunity and submission preference.
*Develops and writes grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders
*Assemble and submit grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations
*Ensure prompt acknowledgment of foundation gifts
*Maintain calendar and spreadsheet to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports.
*Tracks performance against grant proposals and awarded grants, as well as sources of funds
*Prioritize projects to keep multiple projects moving promptly, meet deadlines and manage supplemental material required for proposals
*Provide writing support for major donor and individual contribution letters and
*Prepare and produce final written reports as part of the evaluation of final results for grants
*Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Art, History or related area
Two - four years' experience with grant writing for a major non-profit entity
Candidates must be self-motivated, detail oriented, and highly organized, and have experience using online databases and other sources to locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information
A high level of computer literacy required, including familiarity with Raisers Edge and Foundation Center databases.
Must possess an ability to work well under pressure and the ability to seek and synthesize information and communicate in a compelling and succinct form
Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential
