General Manger - Flint Repertory Theatre

Status: Full Time Non-exempt

The General Manager (GM) for the Flint Repertory Theatre is responsible for administrative, business, and operational management of the organization. Reporting to the Producing Artistic Director, this position manages budgets, facilitates union contracts and oversees artist services.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Provide oversight and direction for Flint Rep’s day-to-day operations
  • Draft, execute and track contracts with union artists (AEA, USA, SDC, SAG/AFTRA, etc.) insurance agreements, rights/royalty agreements, etc.
  •  Manage and track artist payments and union-related reporting
  • Develop annual operating and production budgets with input from Producing Artistic Director.
  • Coordinate facility needs with FIM Maintenance and Special Projects Manager.
  • Perform fiscal-management tasks including artistic expense tracking, budget forecasting and assisting with departmental budgeting
  • Assist in the negotiation and contracting of local artists and musicians
  • Supervision of Office Administrator, Guest Artist Coordinator, House Manager
  • Coordinate with Artist Services Department to book and communicate travel and housing for out-of-town artists, in accordance with all union rules and regulations
  •  Facilitate payment requisitions and submit production invoices for payment.
  •  Apply for and maintain memberships related to professional production work
  • Responsible for smooth operation of all events/performances
  • Attends first rehearsal meetings of all productions
  • Participates in Special Events, as needed
  • Attends all Flint Rep staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Advanced degree in theatre management a plus
  • Experience as General Manager or Assistant GM in a professional theater or similar capacity a plus
  • Experience with contracts and union negotiations
  • Ability to work flexible hours/days reflective of the dynamic schedule of a theatre, which includes a variety of hours including some evenings and weekends.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sense of humor
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong time management, organizational and creative problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office
  • Ability to maintain a calm and cheerful manner when under pressure
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment
