Generously funded by the Ruth Mott Foundation, FIM’s Youth Usher Program is a behind-the-curtain view of performing arts management and leadership. Offering paid employment and mentorship for Flint and Genesee County High School students, the Youth Usher Program allows participants to learn about the culture and inner-workings of live theater with a diverse array of programs and artists.

Participants in the Youth Usher Program work in all of FIM’s venues, and participate in job training and life skills programs. Ushers are paid to attend workshops which highlight essential and transferable skills, including resume building, mock interviewing, customer service, and financial literacy. Job training provides participants the opportunity to be part of a supportive team of young adults and mentors as they work with patrons in a friendly, fast-paced environment conducive to personal and professional growth.

All applicants must:

  • Be current high school students 16 and older
  • Be able to attend select mandatory weekday after-school workshops
  • Have or be able to attain reliable transportation to and from the venues
