The Flint Institute of Music (FIM) is a thriving performing arts organization situated in the heart of the Flint Cultural Center campus, providing music, dance and theatre for all ages and abilities. Tracing its roots back over 100 years to the creation of the Flint Community Music Association, founded by J. Dallas Dort, the FIM has grown significantly and continues to build upon its rich tradition of excellence while evolving to meet the needs of area residents. Today FIM reaches more than 300,000 people annually through lessons, classes, outreach programs, performances and concerts through its three program areas: the Flint School of Performing Arts (FSPA), Flint Symphony Orchestra (FSO) and Flint Reperatory Theatre (REP). Together these entities are dedicated to improving the community through arts programming that is available for all.
This position includes teaching Modern Dance Technique to dancers ages 10-15 years old as well as the Youth Dance Ensemble.
Full-time potential with the addition of Children's Ballet, Children's Ballet Master for The Nutcracker, Director of the Children's Performance Workshop, weekly ballet classes at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Flint, Modern technique, Adult Ballet classes and Creative Dance in collaboration with the Flint, Michigan area Head Start program and other community partners.
The Dance Division of the Flint School of Performing Arts uses a pre-conservatory curriculum. The FSPA is committed to providing a healthy training environment utilizing both a kinesthetic and emotional well-being approach to support the culturally diverse population of Mid-Michigan.
