Resident Teaching Artist

Title:                           Flint Youth Theatre Resident Teaching Artist

Status:                        Full Time, Non-exempt

Supervisor:                 Managing Director


Flint Youth Theatre’s Resident Teaching Artist will provide teaching and administrative assistance to all FYT educational programs. This staff person will split time between onsite work, both in the office and classroom, and offsite teaching workshops.  This staff person will work primarily Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm, with a one-hour lunch, with occasional evening and weekend hours.  The position reports directly to FYT’s Managing Director.



  • Teaches classes and workshops, as needed
  • Schedules all education department workshops
  • Develops and maintains education department calendar of events and assignments
  • In coordination with Managing Director, provides educational research for all publications and presentations, including but not limited to:  Educators’ Performance Guide, Beyond the Stage, lobby displays and actor packets
  • Coordinates and assembles lobby displays
  • Coordinates showcase flyers and programs
  • Provides material assistance to instructors as needed, including but not limited to:  copying scripts and printing syllabi
  • Attend all education meetings
  • Works with Managing Director to maintain library
  • Coordinates production of the Beyond the Stage printed materials
  • Attends all FYT staff meetings
  • Attends first read through of all productions
  • Participates in FYT and FIM special events, as requested
  • Serves as back up to Office Administrator and Community Administrator as needed
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Must be able to pass background check
  • Two to three years’ theatre education experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of internal and external staff/patrons
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic accounting and mathematical ability
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Talent for dealing with the public and volunteers
  • Ability to maintain a calm and cheerful manner when under pressure
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license



  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre required
