Community Programs Coordinator

About the Opportunity

The Community Programs Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of community engagement activities associated with events at, produced by or presented by Flint Institute of Music. This position will coordinate, manage and ensure the implementation of all community engagement offerings as well as assist staff with their marketing, promotions, and the tracking of program data and outcomes.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with the development of programs (both on and offsite) that provide community members 
with opportunities to personally interact with artists and help develop their personal relationship 
with the arts and the Flint Institute of Music.
• Assist with the development of programs and identification of collaborative partners that reach out 
to underserved populations, such as the economically disadvantaged and persons with disabilities, 
to ensure all members of the community have equal opportunity to be involved with and have 
access to programs.
• Assist with the development of programs (both on and offsite) that reflect the diversity of the 
region’s people and engage them with all forms of offerings at the Flint Institute of Music.
• Serve as primary liaison with staff and community partners at all off-site locations (i.e.: schools, 
community centers, performance venues, etc.) for programs within their area of responsibility.
• Build relationships with students, families, colleagues, artists, members of other arts organizations 
and community partners.
• Working with External Relations division Grant Writer assist with grant writing, as needed, for 
education/engagement program funding and coordinate the collection of relevant data and 
preparation of reports for current and potential funders.
• Participate in annual budgeting process and manage program spending in line with budget 
provisions.
• In collaboration with the Director of Education and Community Engagement, identify, interview, 
hire, and prepare contracts for local artists to be presented as part of FIM’s community engagement 
programming.
• Work with External Relations division to create marketing plans and materials and identify media 
opportunities.
• Working with External Relations Sr. Manager of Audience Insights collect data and create 
comprehensive reports detailing events, audience data and organizations served.
• Attend all events for which they are responsible and be a supporting member of the Education and 
Community Engagement team for all its events and activities.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

• B.A or higher degree in a relevant academic area (arts education, community or cultural services, 
performing arts, theatre, music etc.). Significant experience in a similar position and institution(s) 
may substitute for a B.A. 
• Demonstrable experience in community engagement event coordination for a performing 
arts organization or other arts or cultural institution.
• Knowledge of community arts engagement programs, community partnership programs, 
preferred.
• Demonstrable experience managing and implementing community outreach programs 
• Experience with budget management. 
• Knowledge of the Flint community and its environs is a plus.
